Mainstream Media (MSM) loves to sensationalize the dullest of stories. They editorialize their stories to boost their persona's in the hopes of one day joining the national nightly news. Today's news reporting reminds me of my younger days reading of helpless farmers being kidnapped by two-headed aliens with physic abilities in the National Enquirer. What was once considered to be a rag has now taught MSM just how popular the news can be as long as you edit the facts to make it more exciting regardless of how the editing tends to slant the story from real factual and accurate reporting to selling entertainment.
It has gotten to the point that this lopsided presenting of the facts has produced what can only be rightfully called Gossip. Taking a kernel of truth and applying personal opinions and observations is NOT news reporting as is taught in journalism class but is instead the very stuff that you hear from your neighbor over the fence or your Aunt Minny over the phone. Journalism has lost its objectivity and become the mouth pieces of those on whom they are supposed to be keeping tabs. The coziness shared between MSM news, Congress, and the corporations has led to the demise of true investigative reporting.
What I would love to see is a organization of private investigators whose sole purpose is to root out and expose public corruption at all levels and expose it in an unbiased publication. With the advent of the World Wide Web it is a dream that is coming closer to realization. With rising unemployment more people will have time on their hands to keep their ears to the ground and report on these rumblings of highly suspect dealings. They will also have the time and the means with today's smaller digital cameras cell phone cameras to capture video to post on popular websites such as YouTube.com. Got a free hour or so or maybe dreamed of being Dick Tracy? Here is your chance. With the absconding of the News Medias responsibilities it now falls on you to do what you can to expose corruption and malfeasance any where you encounter it.
I believe it is known as "Ambush Reporting" and "Viral Video".
Have fun while making a difference! Good luck and if you have a clip please feel free to post the links in the comments below. Please make sure you can back up any claims made in relaying a story with proof or at least make the disclaimer "well I heard...."! We wouldn't want anyone getting sued for slaqnder or libel now would we!
