How do You catch a Political Troll?

Good Troll bait is hard to come by. First you need a serious issue, marinate it in multiple valid comments, let sit on the front page to bake, and lo and behold they will come a runnin'! You know who they are if you've been on Newsvine for a month or more; they are fairly easy to spot if you haven't been here that long. They will jump into a polite discourse and start throwing names around like "idiot", "nutjob", Wing nuts", or "stupid"," assinine", "dumb", or anything else there feeble minds can come up with in order to bolster their own "short comings" in logic, facts, or debate skills.

Feeding one Troll will only encourage others to yammer for food as well. Their favorite food is anger and their least favorite is fact. If you allow them to get under your skin you might as well quit moderating your column right then. As sure as one gets a rise out of you he will call all of his/her Troll friends into your column for a buffet. They will eat up so much of your time trying to explain why all the blame doesn't belong on one Parties shoulder that you will lose sight of your original topic. Best thing to do in a case like this is to "Delete" their original comment, preferably as soon as the name calling begins.

If there are pertinent comments that you wish to continue to have viewed you can copy and paste them in another or new comment section. BTW you do NOT have to apologize to Trolls for deleting their comments. They know exactly why you did it! Hopefully the rumors of tracking Trollish behavior by way of keeping count of how many times a posters comments are marked "Inflammatory" or No Value" under that cute little ! button on the bottom right of the comment box are true. If therumors are true we can expect quite a few (who have been around for so long they think they can act any way they want) will soon be gone or learn that the rules of good behavior and polite conversation even apply to their grandfathered in butts as well. Don't get me wrong, not everyone who has been around for a long time (pre-MSNBC) act like trolls-quite the opposite actually as a rule-most are very polite and will happily engage in a lively debate and bring facts to the table instead of Party Line assertions. But there are a few exceptions to every rule.....
