That's right: Crime DOES pay--and pays very well if you are member of Congress. A recent university study exposed that unethical insider information is routinely used by Congressmen to line their pockets while the same use of that information by an ordinary Citizen is enough to send you to jail for wuite some time. As a matter of fact, a former icon of American wholesomenesss, Martha Stewart, can readily attest to this fact. I have to admit I was not exactly shocked by the revelation when I saw it on 60 minutes the other night. Nor am I shocked by how some Congress people have responded to the question posed by the L.A. Times LA Weekly Blog to the charges leveled. Needless to say, the Stock Act which would stop this illegal behavior (for anyone else that is) continues to languish in obscurity in the Halls of Congress.
All of this is done right under the nose of and in conjunction with Wall Street in many cases as the reports linked to above show. Now I don't know about you, but if I were a stock trader who knew this was going on, I would watch the trades being done by the Congress people and follow their lead. Who knows, maybe some ARE doing just that? If ever anyone were in doubt as to whether or not we need the transparency the Tea Party folk have been demanding, this should at least make you consider the need for more. We can't trust the foxes guarding the henhouse to regulate themselves. It is far and away past time to introduce a Citizen Review of the Ethics Rules for both the Senate and the House. Please sign this petition demanding this be done and share it on Facebook.
Okay people; we can let the Media distract us with news that the Occupy Wall Street people have been arrested or we can focus on who really does occupy Wall Street--crooks and liars and their Above-the-Law puppets in Congress who profit fom illegal activity...
