The trick to playing "The Race Card" during an election cycle is not to play it too early. When you do, you allow the candidate in question too much time to refute the allegations especially when there is no concrete proof to the contrary. This happen in 2008 with President Obama and Rev. Jeremiah Wright and, even though it didn't really gather a lot of attention at the time, so to with Ron Paul and the infamous Newsletters. The recent rehashing of long time charges of "racism" against Ron Paul in the Mainstream Media has done something they never intended to do: It increased Ron Pauls chances of securing the Republican nomination! Rassmussenreports he now leads Gingritch by 3% and trails Romney by 5%, securing second place in the contest. Meanwhile the fact that there is plenty of evidence of Ron Paul's anti-racism, the only proof being offered for a supposedly pro-racist stance are the newsletters published in 1992 which even the Media admits they cannot tie Ron Paul directly to other than he was the publisher at the time and an occasional contributing writer.
Many have used the fact that he was the publisher as an indication that he supported the views of the ghostwriters and anonymous contributors. Ron Paul has stepped forward and acknowledged that he does indeed morally own this mistake even though he has also publicly disavowed their views. This is far more than others have done with regard to THEIR racist supporters and yet it does not appear to be enough for MSM and the other detractors. I can't help but remember the pass given to Strom Thurmond on his racism because he stated he had "changed" his views and owned his mistake, but the hypocritical have decided that Ron Paul's "owning up" to his moral responsibility s not good enough. I suppose this double-standard is justifiable to them since their preferred candidates could not pass the same litmus test. Instead their mistakes are glossed over or openly dismissed as a non-issue. Selling out the American Taxpayer to Corporate America and destruction of our Freedoms are dismissed along with racist ties as long as the potential or actual President is willing to be a Corporate Media puppet.
This time around the media has made a huge mistake by attacking Ron Paul so early in the game. By doing do they have brought his Libertarian message to the forefront and these days, that message is garnering a lot of attention. The promised "changes" in Government have failed to materialize and that has many Americans casting about for an alternative to the entrenched Democrat/Republican Good Old Boy network .
Their mistake is our gain. It is far past time to rein in the abuse of our Rights by the Federal Government. When the Government has grown so large as to contemplate telling you who you can or cannot marry, it has become too big...
