It wouldn't take very much actually.  All that is needed is an updated code for Google Analytics!  It seems that when I try to verify my column with Google Search it doesn't like the code I was given originally when I set up the account.  To paraphrase the response:  "your @!$%#s old!  You need new @!$%#."  Then it gives these nice directions that you think would be easy to follow; take this out, insert this, change these X's to your user name and you should be good to go.

NOT!

As soon as I do what it says and hit "Save" under the script window, Newsvine informs me the "code appears invalid".  Really?  Okay.  So why give it to me then?

N-E-Way if we can maybe get one of the webmaster guru's around here to help the clueless like me get our @!$%# together so Google Analytics, Google Search, and Newsvine all see and recognize each other, just the sheer volume of postings by our illustrious members would increase our traffic flow to the site.

On the other hand, maybe I will lose the bet...

CK, what a good idea. Your idea of growing Newsvine would take away the the idea that this is only a liberal site. I am getting used to being called a right wing person, so why not improve Newsvine. As far as the trolls, they will show up no matter what.

I'm doubtful of Conservatives being really welcome here and maybe, just maybe, it is preferred that they stay away--no matter which side of the aisle they come from...

I'll let you guess which one I voted for. Why would you want more trolls and spammers on this site as already is.

LoL! Because you get the GOOD with the bad! More traffic, more viewpoints, more news, more, revenue (which hopefully gets us more Admins), and of course--more Trolls to whack!

Many here on NV don't want more than one view, as evidenced by collapsed comments, seeds, and articles.

There are two articles that should help you get Google Analytics working:

A Google Analytics Primer

Google Analytics Update

as far as I know these will get you in business. Good luck!

I never understood why Newsvine allows users to do this at all. The Right Way to do this would be to give users a text field on the account/GA page to input their Analytics ID, like tumblr does. Then Newsvine controls the Javascript snippet, so it exists once in the database and can be updated globally from a single point instead of expecting users to do it on a per-column basis.

Allowing even heavily analyzed and sanitized Javascript is still going to be a security risk, not to mention a waste of valuable time.
