There was a time when the POTUS was given the utmost respect.  Not so much any more.  Vietnam along with "Tricky Dick" Nixon and his Watergate scandal began the slide culminating in "You Lie" Wilson shouting at the President in a Nationally televised speech.

Considering how two-faced our Politicians have become since Nixon, I'm afraid the days of automatic respect for the Office of President is gone.  Now it has to be earned...
