We were promised it but as of yet, it has failed to materialized. When the bailouts for the Banks were first proposed, I suggested a few different ways this could be done. One of the best ways to bail them out was to give the States grants to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure which would then be passed into the hands of contractors to do the work who would deposit the funds in their respective banks. Another suggestion would be to expand and refine the SBA to ensure more people would get loans to start their small businesses who would also deposit those funds in their banks. What we ot instead was the travesty we called the QE I & II, TARP, The Stmulus Act, all of which directly benefitted the Banks, but did very little to help Mainstreet to heal itself. For that matter, the Banks took the funds and instead of helping homeowners and small businesses who were struggling like they were supposed to, instead they propped up their bottom lines by buying higher-interest treasury bonds with their almost 0% interest borrowed money.
So the economy continues to struggle to remain afloat. Businesses refuse to expand as consumers struggle just to pay the bills, and consumer confidence remains tanked. Can't say that I blame businesses for not hiring when there are no demands for their expanded production of goods. Makes perfect business sense really. So how do we get people to buy more? Simple really, by getting them more disposable income to spend. It is time we injected the money into the economy at ground level by creating jobs. We all know how bad our infrastructure is with collapsing bridges, sinkholes swallowing cars, gas lines blowing up neighborhoods, and rivers and ports to shallow for cargo ships. Add to this the condition of many schools and public hospitals, and you can see the need for vast improvements in the very things we need to make and keep this country strong. Construction generates jobs, tax revenues, and consumer demand. It is time we started building again. Whomever wants to win the upcoming election had best keep this in mind and address the concern...
