We get pandered to in EVERY election year and for good reason, we represent 99% of the population of the good ole U.S. of A.! Once all of the bunting comes done and the podiums are packed up after the final tally is taken on Election Night though, we once again will be put in the rear-view mirror. Sure, we will get the platitudes and the appeals for supporting the current crop of Politico's agendas, but the truth is that no matter who sits in the chair behind that government desk, we are far from their everyday minds. Their days get filled with Lobbyist appointments, Special Interest meetings, golf games, and dinner dates with the Rich and Powerful. It is really hard to remember that so many of their fellow countrymen are but a paycheck away from ruin, or facing a foreclosure, or one illness away from joining the ranks of the Homeless.
We get big Promises on the campaign trails. Just the ones that I've heard in my 30 years of being voting age would have me on Easy Street eating bread and honey while sipping a nice cold glasses of milk for the rest of my natural life if they were all fulfilled. A Living Wage can't stay ahead of Price Inflation because that would cut too deeply into Corporate Profits. Nor can I expect a Public Option to drive down the cost of Health Insurance for everyone. Toss out ending the Wars currently draining the Treasury because that would increase the Unemployment Rate, and we surely don't want that bad press at this point now do we? Much better to sacrifice a few more young peoples lives than face some Political Discomfort.
No, that isn't sarcasm, but an actual mental state of those we put in office. Politicians care naught for the rest of us. You have but to look at their priorities once elected. The first thing on their mind is to retain their positions as long as possible and to seek to secure their futures once they do leave the Public Sector. This is accomplished by catering to the whims and needs of those who will support their next campaign bid, or who will give them a well-paid position within a business once they leave. The self-serving attitude dominates Politics on BOTH sides of the aisle. They pay lip service to the Ideals their Parties are supposedly founded upon, but anyone with any kind of Honesty and Common Sense can see right through the smokescreen. If nothing else, the Do Nothing Congress has only reinforced the observation that it took the combine cooperation of both the Democrats and the Republican Parties to gut the soul from America. The Glass-Stegal Act being gutted, tax breaks for the Upper Class, cutting Social Welfare programs, and the War on Terror currently bankrupting our Nation are all examples of how these Politician's are quick to blame each other for what they have done collectively. While Compromise is supposed to be the cornerstone of our Duopoly system of political parties to ensure that a balance of the desires and interests of the Have's and Have-Not's are equally represented, the truth of the matter is that Business and the Wealthy interests have been protected and promoted over the welfare of the other classes since the death of the real workers Unions. Yes, even Unions have become a shadow of what they were meant to be as corruption, nepotism, and tenure protection moved in and replaced good work ethics and equality.
We have no one to turn to any more to represent us, the majority, any more. We haven't in many years.had anyone we could really count on to watch our backs. We only have ourselves, a diverse and splintered group of disgruntled Americans with different ideas on how to achieve our shared goals of Success, Independence, and Happiness. This will not change no matter who we put into office this year, or in 2014, or in 2016, or any other time as long as the only choices we have are those hand selected by the Rich and Powerful to compete. Nor can we expect this situation to be remedied by those who have successfully rigged the whole election process to benefit themselves and guarantee that no Commoners will ever be able to compete. That's right; COMMONER'S! The new ruling class isn't titled with King, Queen, Duke, or Lord; they instead have titles such as CEO, President, Chairman of the Board, The Honorable (?), etc...
Not a single one will readily change the system of government that has given them such great Power and Riches because there is no reason to do so.
The only thing that will ever force these people to return the control of the government to The People is self-preservation. It is only the threat of losing everything they own, losing their life, or losing their ability to accumulate Wealth that has ever forced the Ruling Class to give up the Power their station in life has afforded them. Those like Marie Antoinette who refused or couldn't see the handwriting upon the wall have literally lost their head for not recognizing the danger their oppression of the Lower-Classes posed to them. The World is ripe for a popular uprising against these "rulers". We see it on an almost daily basis with events like the G-summit riots, Arab Spring, and the rise of Domestic Terrorism in the nations around the world; including our own. This is not a localized National struggle by any means. Thanks to the Globalization the worlds Governments have so desperately sought, the coming Revolution will be world-wide. Ah unpleasant consequence of the very policy that have been promoting in their own self-interest of Greed. It isn't a question of WILL it happen, but WHEN will it happen in almost every country around the world including the United States. It won't be broadcast on the Corporate-controlled government-supporting Media when it happens. More likely it will be Twittered or YouTube'ed to friends or family members and shared from there when it begins, just as it was in the Middle-East. Can't have all that Civil Unrest stirring up the rest of the Natives...
