Well whaddaya know, the Tea Party and the President have finally arrived on Common Ground--jobs! As a Tea Party supporter and member I have personally been calling for investments at the Main Street level since the beginning of this economic crises. I denounced the TARP and Stimulus Acts as nothing more than rewards for bad behavior which only contained half-hearted swipes at addressing the more pressing needs of Middle-America: JOBS. Finally, we have a call from on top for a concerted effort to rebuild and expand our aging infrastructure. This will pump money the right way into the economy-from the bottom up instead of failed Reaganomics trickle down. When we put the blue-collars to work, they pay bills, go to dinner, buy clothes, cars, and homes. When we dump money on banks, they sit on it and use it to pay bonuses, or worse, buy bonds which we must pay them interest on with money borrowed at no interest. All in all, I would say that finally some common sense is coming to Washington, D.C..
Now the big question is, what will Congress do? Well I expect the Democrats to support it, the Republicans too if they are smart, and the Tea Party, well they are going to want cuts in other spending to finance the projects. I agree with them on that but I wait with baited breath to see where these cuts will come from. Knowing the Republicans, I expect them to want it to come from Social Programs. Knowing the Democrats, they will want to cut it from the Military. Well, when you cut the military last time, they started looking at cutting pension plans. Why does it always fall on the little guy instead of the Mega-Corps and pork barrelled projects to reward supporters who can better afford it? How about we take those funds the GAO has identified as "waste" and start our funding there instead of cutting out the legs from under the poor and struggling or those who put their lives on the line to guard our freedoms.
Meanwhile, from at least one Tea Party member--THANK YOU President Obama for finally focusing on Main Street!
Now I dare any one in Congress to muck this one up!!! It won't matter if you are Republican or Democrat, partisan infighting will NOT be tolerated on this issue since everyone is being touched by this personally at some level. Even the Bankers are being hit and they know that only by getting Joe the Plumber back to work will the economy begin to rebound. Do you think anyone blocking this stands a snowballs chance in Hell of getting re-elected regardless of Party? I don't. So let's quickly agree on where to cut to fund the Jobs Program, leave the suffering masses alone, and get this passed without a bunch of posturing. Needless to say, the cuts will be under close scrutiny...as will who will be the beneficiaries of the contracts!
